Seeing what you have achieved at the end of the day
#MyStory - Leon Fischer tells his BWF Group story

My name is Leon Fischer. I am 18 years old and I have been training as a tool mechanic at BWF Profiles since 2019. In 2019, I received a warm welcome at the start of my training. Since then, I have learned a lot and am now already independently taking on smaller orders and project work. I am not yet finished with my training and will still learn a lot.

I'm looking forward to it, because my two years so far are certainly just the beginning of my story at BWF Group ...

You are immediately part of the team

It was always clear to me that I wanted to learn a craft trade. When I was 15, I started looking for an apprenticeship. Friends and family quickly drew my attention to the BWF Group, as some of them work here themselves. Through a trial internship, I immediately realised that I liked it here and applied straight away.

The Welcome Days were a great start to the training, because the warm welcome from my colleagues and supervisors made me feel comfortable and part of the team right away. The trainee and student excursion was also a great highlight, where we built a raft together.

Everyone helps everyone, everyone knows everyone

It is typical for the BWF Group that there is always a good atmosphere. You are not left alone when you need help. There is always someone to support you. The motto here in the BWF Group is clear: everyone helps everyone, everyone knows everyone. There is always an exchange among each other, even if you only meet briefly in the corridor.

You are not only challenged, but also encouraged

The training starts with a basic metal training, where you learn typical hand movements such as filing. The tips and tricks from our skilled workers are taught right away, and the importance of precise work and self-control is not neglected either. At the vocational school, you also have to do a lot of maths by calculating various formulas. But the colleagues and instructors are always happy to help with any questions. You also learn about the different properties and differences between materials such as plastic and metal. With regard to the exams, you also get active support, no matter whether it's about something academic or practical. As time goes by, the apprenticeship becomes more and more fun because you learn how to use different machines and tools. I also got insights into different departments, such as design, production, tool adjustment, profile machining or tool preparation.

All this has helped me to understand the more complex processes better. Now I'm really excited about learning how to erode in my third year of training, because then I'll be able to make all the tools myself. You notice that at the BWF Group you are not only challenged, but also encouraged. I'm also looking forward to being able to teach others my own knowledge in the future.

Seeing what you have achieved at the end of the day

You are quickly given responsibility and in the meantime I am already independently taking on smaller orders for production, for example when a special holder is needed for a production line. But I have also been able to complete more complex projects, such as a small two-cylinder engine. My apprenticeship is simply never boring. The work is very varied because you never know exactly what's coming next. Sometimes a colleague just comes by with a sketch and you work out a solution together and create a small part to try out.

Every day I learn something new and the fact that at the end of the day you can always see what you have achieved over the course of the day means that you end every day with a sense of achievement. That motivates me a lot.
